Safe Installations during Coronavirus

If you don’t need a stairlift urgently, it makes sense to wait until the coronavirus crisis has passed. However, we recognize that some people cannot manage without a stairlift while staying at home during the crisis. For anyone whose need is urgent and compelling, Acorn Stairlifts aims to provide the same comprehensive service it always has, but with extra safeguards in place.

Although we can carry out a Virtual Survey of your staircase, it remains necessary for a skilled engineer to visit your home to install and test your new Acorn Stairlift. However, we have instigated new protocols to make this process as safe as possible during the coronavirus crisis, in line with the latest official advice.

Because Acorn is a company producing and supplying vital medical equipment, our installers and engineers are officially designated as ‘key workers’ and can continue operating during the crisis, with enhanced safeguarding precautions.

Acorn Stairlifts is following the guidance of global health experts at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) on preventing the spread of COVID-19. We have implemented several protocols to ensure our clients and employee’s safety, from pre-screening every appointment to ensure that nobody in the home or our employees are symptomatic, to ensuring that all of our field personnel are using the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment at every appointment and abiding by the following guidelines when arriving at the home:

• Pre-screening every appointment to make sure no-one in the home has symptoms of coronavirus
• Ensuring all Acorn Stairlifts employees visiting customers have no coronavirus symptoms or any known contact with anyone who has. Any employee with symptoms or contact will be taken out of service immediately
• Calling the customer 30 minutes prior to arrival at their home – you don’t need to greet us at the door
• Avoiding any physical person-to-person contact (such as handshakes)
• Observing social distancing – staying at least two meters from you – although in many cases you won’t even need to be in the same room while the work is done
• Thoroughly washing our hands and using hand sanitiser products before approaching the customer’s home
• Using protective equipment such as disposable face masks and gloves whenever appropriate
• Cleaning equipment and tools before and after each home visit
• Wiping down all touch points – such as door handles, handrails, light switches and power sockets – before and after the appointment

Installing an Acorn Stairlift typically takes only around an hour for a straight staircase and a little longer for more complex staircases with curves or bends. You can stay in a different part of the house while the work is done. Our engineer will need to demonstrate the basic operation of the stairlift, but this can be done at a distance and using a face mask.
